There has been a lot of controversy regarding the trading of non-member Tens recently in the news and we wanted to take a minute to tell you about it and what we are doing to address the issues.
We are creating a place where you could meet just about anyone in the world. This is done by trading ten-minute time chunks ("Tens") of members and non-members alike. In the case of non-members, those Tens were conditional on the person actually joining, but the idea was to make them tradable in advance, to show the non-members the level of interest in their time. We don't profit from this. People buy their Tens from each other, not from allthis. The non-member profiles were clearly labeled as such and we never had a single complaint or confusion over this in the months since it was introduced.
Recently however, several prominent Internet personalities complained about this practice, saying that non-member profiles were misleading. To address this issue we have temporarily halted the trading of non-member Tens and are redesigning these pages to make them clearer.
We didn't do a good job communicating to our visitors what we are really all about, and for that, we apologize.
To help reduce confusion and alleviate people's concerns, we disabled all non-member pages created by our users to date, and made it impossible for them to create new ones. Those who invested in non-member Tens received full refunds of their time credits.
We are working on additional design changes and will run them by our critics and supporters alike before releasing them.
